The Scale-up Institute has published its annual review of UK scale-up businesses for 2025.
A scale-up business being defined as one with a minimum of ten employees that has achieved an average annualised growth (in employees and/or turnover) of more than 20% over a three-year period. Scale-up density is a key indicators of how entrepreneurial an area is.
The report reveals that Buckinghamshire performed very strongly in 2023, achieving a rank of 2nd out of the 51 areas listed (p2o) for the number of scale-ups per 100,000 people in the population. The report suggests that the number of scale-ups in Buckinghamshire rose from 310 in 2022 to 490 in 2023. For the average growth in scale-up density since 2013, Buckinghamshire ranks fifth.
