The latest Business Demography data released by ONS last month showed that Buckinghamshire's business survival rates remain strong. Overall, Buckinghamshire firms are more likely to survive for 1 to 5 years than the national and regional averages.

There was an increase in business deaths in Buckinghamshire in 2024 however, from 3,020 deaths in 2023 to 3,510 in 2024.

In Buckinghamshire there were 1.1 business deaths for every business birth in 2024. This was at odds with England (0.9) and the South East (0.9) where there were more business births than deaths (i.e. a ratio less than 1).

Buckinghamshire's business start up rate (business births versus the number of active businesses) has been lower than comparator areas since 2019 and in 2024 stood at 9.4%. This can be partly attributed to the county's higher business survival rates.
